What are Personal Insight Questions?
The University of California application looks for students to create a cohesive narrative about their abilities, future goals, and interests through a series of application essays, or the Personal Insight Questions (PIQs).
According to the UC Admissions website:
"Imagine UC was a person. If we met face-to-face, what would you want us to know about you? These personal insight questions allow you to tell us. You could write about your creative side. Your thoughts on leadership. A challenge you’ve faced...make sure you show us your personality—just as you would in real life."

Comprehensive Package
You'll work with a writing coach to choose topics for the Personal Insight Questions (PIQs) best suited to showcase your strengths and build an Activities and Awards list that supports your application. Already have topics in mind or drafts written? That’s okay! Your writing coach will offer initial feedback and advice on those drafts/topics to help ensure you are on the right track.
Your writing coach will also work with you to develop a schedule to help you maintain momentum on your application essays and complete the UC PIQ process within a reasonable timeframe (usually about 8 weeks). You'll receive targeted comments and expert advice through multiple rounds of revision and have weekly calls with your coach to address questions and concerns and aid in brainstorming and revision. At the end of the process, your PIQs and Activities and Awards list will be professionally edited and trimmed, so you can focus on the content rather than on grammar and word count as you write and revise.

Support doesn’t end there! Coaching for any additional supplemental essays, appeal/waitlist statements, or questionnaire you receive from time of sign up to the start of fall semester 2023 is included as well.

PIQ Analysis
Receive direction on how to strengthen drafts, better showcase your accomplishments, and target the qualities UC is looking for.​ You'll receive a detailed analysis of each of your drafts based on UC's criteria, as well as insights into how to write strong UC PIQ responses.
